The inside/outside combo of Kosta Koufas and Jamar Butler helped Hershey move into second place with a 68-57 win over Superior Baptist in Game 3 (12/22-12/29). Butler nabbed Player of the Week honors with a game-high 22 points and Koufas added 17 as the Red Storm climbed to 2-1 on the year. Eric Gordon had 15 points for the Crusaders, who fell for the first time this season ... Great Lakes Christian took over sole possession of first place and Coach Shipman whispered about dominance after their 87-49 win over Oskee Wow-wow. D.J. White and Dan Coleman combined for 41 points as the Crusaders improved to 3-0, then talked some trash about re-creating Oskee Wow-Wow's league dominance of a few seasons ago. The Crusaders have been impressive early, but OWW's streak lasted two years. Karma Alert: GLC could be without Trevon Hughes this week when they battle UNC. Hughes, the #1 overall pick on Signing Day, is questionable for the Big Ten opener on Wednesday. Evan Turner had 17 points to lead OWW (0-3) ... Robert Montgomery got their first "W" of the year, 50-30 over Nelson Christian. Jason Okrzesik paced the Knights with 12 points. DeShawn Sims (12 points) was the only starter to finish in double digits for the 1-2 Doves.

Game 2 - A Good Start
Dan Coleman made the most of his first start as Great Lakes Christian trounced Hershey, 90-51 in Game 2 (12/12-12/20). Coleman didn't start Game 1 for the Crusaders (he had 22 points as the O.T. player), but took advantage of the P.T. in Game 2, scoring 24 points and earning Player of the Week honors. Geary Claxton and DJ White added 21 apiece for GLC (2-0), which is averaging 85 points a game. Jamal Butler and Kosta Koufas finished with 16 each for the 1-1 Red Storm ... Superior Baptist U improved to 2-0 with a 70-45 win over Robert Montgomery U. SBU's Eric Gordon scored 26 in his Super 6 debut after missing the season opener with a tailbone injury. (Or was he waiting to start his career in front of RMU coach Mockler?) Gordon got help from Jordan Crawford and Drew Neitzel, who combined for 37 points to put the game away. Jason Okrzesik and Manny Harris scored 12 each to lead the 0-2 Knights ... DeShawn Sims scored a game-high 22 points and Spencer Tollackson tacked on 14 as Nelson Christian posted its first win, 60-32 over Oskee Wow-wow. The Doves won without Armon Bassett, who was suspended for violating team rules. OWW's Shaun Pruitt was the only player to score in double figures as the Warriors dropped to 0-2.

Game 1 - Shooting For Two
Around the Super 6 through Game 1 -- (12/8 - 12/10/07) ... Superior Baptist's quest for a second straight title got off to a good start, with a 51-38 win over Nelson Christian in the Super 6 season opener. Jordan Crawford had 20 points and Drew Neitzel added 15 to lift the Crusaders to victory. SBU won without star guard Eric Gordon, who was sidelined with a back injury. Spencer Tollackson (16 points) and DeShawn Sims (12) were the only UNC starters in double figures ... Great Lakes Christian put up the biggest numbers of the week, cruising past Robert Montgomery U, 80-61. Geary Claxton tossed in 21 points to pace the Crusaders attack. Brian Butch scored 17 to lead the Knights, who also got solid performances from new starters E'Twaun Moore and Jason Okrzesik ... Trent Meachem scored 16 points and Jamar Butler added 13 as Hershey beat Oskee Wow-wow, 50-43. Meachem came thisclose to riding the bench for the Red Storm, but the game day decision to put him in the lineup (instead of Brian Randle) paid off. OWW's Shaun Pruitt finished with a league-high 24 points, but his Illini teammates, Rodney Alexander and Demetri McCamey, only scored two points combined.

Assorted News
(From CBS Sportsline) - Northwestern's Kevin Coble has left his team to be beside his mother, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer in Phoenix. Coble averaged 13.4 points and 5.2 rebounds last season, so the Wildcats are missing him. But it's impressive to see a basketball player put something above basketball, and if it's time with his ailing mother, then I say good for him. And her. As for the other indefinite leave, it's less clear-cut. Wisconsin's Michael Flowers announced Thursday that he's taking a "medical" leave. An explanation was not given, nor was a timetable for a possible return. But either way, the Badgers are now down their top perimeter defender, and Flowers is the second Wisconsin player to take a medical leave in the past three years (Greg Stiemsma, who has since rejoined the team, took a leave in 2005 to deal with a case of depression).

Super 6 Championship Game - Nothing But Net
Before the start of the 1998 season, Hershey was dead-set against creating a Super 6 Tournament. It was voted in anyway, and the Red Storm moped around, playing bad basketball in each of the first four postseason events. Fast forward to 2007. Hershey is finally warming up to this tourney idea.
UH won the Super 6 Tournament for the fourth time in five years, 58-54 over Great Lakes Christian in the '07 Championship Game. Greg Oden closed out his first season with 22 points as the Red Storm hoisted its eighth banner to the rafters, more than any other team. (see complete championship listing below)
Superior Baptist, the 2006/2007 regular season champions, finished its season on a winning note, beating Robert Montgomery 54-49 in the third place consolation game.

#1 Superior Baptist U vs #4 Great Lakes Christian
Top-seeded Superior Baptist went from worst to first to capture the regular season title. The Crusaders were 1-11 last year, but Drew Neitzel led an impressive turnaround this season. SBU (8-4) held at least a share of first place for 11 of 12 regular season games, and swept the season series vs GLC, 2-0. Great Lakes Christian (7-6) lost four straight to end the year, but have started to score big lately. The Crusaders put up 86 in a Game 12 loss to UH, and scored 78 points in an opening round win over OWW.SBU vs GLC - 2006/2007

#2 Hershey vs #3 Robert Montgomery U
Hershey caught fire after a 1-4 start and wound up leading the league in scoring (in a low-scoring season). The Red Storm (6-6) swept the season series with the Knights, averaging 79.5 ppg in two victories. RMU (7-6) stumbled down the stretch, but salvaged a #3 seed with a Game 12 win over UNC, then beat the Doves again in the opening round of the tournament.UH vs RMU - 2006/2007

Game 11 - Championship Mojo!
SBU's MoJo & Drew - 2007 Super 6 Champions
Around the Super 6 through Game 11 - (2/6 - 2/10) .... Superior Baptist U has clinched their first Super 6 championship in 10 years! Despite losing to Hershey in Game 11, SBU (7-4) still has a one-game lead on Great Lakes Christian with one game to play in the regular season, giving the Crusaders their first banner since a co-championship with UNC in 1997.
Great Lakes Christian (6-5) can still earn a share of the title. For that to happen, GLC has to beat UH in Game 12, and SBU has to lose to OWW. If that's how it shakes out, SBU would be the #1 seed after sweeping the season series vs GLC, 2-0.

Game 10 - Up Goes Frazier! Up Goes Frazier!
Chester Frazier, Warren Carter and UNC are going toe-to-toe with the Super 6 heavyweights. The Doves beat #1 SBU in Game 10. They'll take on #2 GLC this week.
Around the Super 6 through Game 10 (1/30-2/3) ... Nelson Christian pulled off the upset of the week, beating top-ranked Superior Baptist, 66-47. The loss ended a four game winning streak for SBU, but didn't actually didn't affect the standings. SBU (7-3) still holds a one-game lead over Great Lakes Christian (6-4), after GLC lost to Robert Montgomery U, 77-65.
SBU could clinch at least a share of the Super 6 title this week against Hershey, while GLC faces upset-minded UNC. RMU, still mathematically alive at 5-5 (ok, I'm really reaching there), will play Oskee Wow-wow. OWW continued its late season turnaround, beating Hershey in Game 10 to join UH and UNC in a fourth place tie at 4-6.

Game 9 - Dishin' The Rock, Dissin' The Badgers
*** Those Steeeeenkin' Badgers ... You heard it here first: Wisconsin is NOT the second best team in America. Let's make sure we have this right... the Badgers are one of the worst shooting teams in the Big Ten, but one of the top teams in the nation??? In fact, Slick Vitalis thinks Wisconsin is likely to be stunned by a #15 or #16 seed in March. I mean, how can you take a team seriously when Chris Rock is the two guard?
Around the Super 6 through Game 9 - (1/23 - 1/28) ... Superior Baptist won the battle for superiority in the Super 6 (for now), beating GLC 73-69 in Game 9. Going into Saturday's game, SBU needed 14 points from Carl Landry to get the win. Landry got 17 to give the Crusaders (7-2) sole possession of first place with three games to play. Ivan Harris paced SBU with a season-high 18 points to help the Crusaders win their fourth straight and wrap up a season sweep of GLC (6-3). SBU also beat GLC in Game 4 ... David Teague exploded for a career-high 28 points to lead Hershey past Robert Montgomery U, 87-56. Lawrence McKenzie and Greg Oden added 19 each as the Red Storm continued their (too) late season charge. Following a 3-0 start, RMU has lost 5 of 6 to tumble into a third-place tie with UH at 4-5 ... It's been a rough season for Oskee Wow-wow. The Warriors are struggling through a rebuilding year, but they've turned it around lately by winning three of their last five, including a 52-50 squeaker over Nelson Christian in Game 9. Alando Tucker, Rich McBride and Shaun Pruitt did most of the work in the victory. Tyler Smith and Warren Carter were the only starters to finish with double digits for the Doves, who have been colder than Kammron Taylor's jumpshot.
*** En el Ojo de la Tormenta ... Since hitting bottom with 35 points in a Game 5 loss to OWW, Hershey has been on a roll, scoring 91, 88, and 87 points while winning 3 of their last 4.
*** Only 3 Games Left To Go ...
GLC plays: RMU / UNC / UH

Game 7 & 8
Around the Super 6 through Games 7 & 8 (1/20) ... It was an easy week for Great Lakes Christian, as they racked up two wins without scoring a lot of points. In fact, GLC hasn't been a high-scoring team all year, breaking the 70-point mark only twice, but that hasn't stopped them from piling up the victories and hanging on to first place. Coach Shipman's crew beat UNC 67-57 in Game 7, then got past Oskee Wow-wow, 69-65 in Game 8 to up their record to 6-2 on the year. GLC shares the lead with Superior Baptist, which has won three straight. Drew Neitzel's bye-assisted 28 points helped SBU beat Hershey 69-58 Game 7, but Neitzel really wasn't needed in Saturday's 76-32 blowout of RMU in Game 8. With GLC and SBU both at 6-2, it sets up this week's Game of the Century, as the co-leaders square off in Game 9 (1/23-1/28) ... While SBU and GLC were winning two games, Robert Montgomery U lost a pair and fell out of first place. The Knights started the year with three straight wins while posting some big offensive numbers, but they're 1-4 over their last 5 games and averaged only 38.5 points per game in two losses this week, dropping them into third place ... Hershey and Nelson Christian are tied for fourth place at 3-5, after the Red Storm beat the Doves 88-63 in Game 8. Greg Oden tossed in 29 points to earn Player of the Week honors. UNC has dropped three in a row since losing Spencer Tollackson to a broken hand. Oskee Wow-wow sits alone in the basement at 2-6, while grumbling about might have been, like signing Greg Oden to a scholarship (instead of Nate Minnoy) in 2005.
He's Still Around? ... GLC's Lester Abram was the forgotten man for the Crusaders this year. The senior had zero starts until he got the call in Game 8 and finished with a respectable 12 points.
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow ... Nelson Christian's Warren Carter originally signed with GLC (then Vaughn U), but was cut at the December '04 draft. No team signed him (not even Oskee Wow-wow!) in that draft, or the '05 draft. Finally, UNC grabbed him in the second round this year and Carter's been a steal, ranking among the top 10 scorers. More importantly, Warren's hair has earned him a spot on the '06/'07 All-Ugly team.

Game 6 - Jammed Up
Greg Oden and UH slam GLC, creating a log jam at the top of the standings
Around the Super 6 through Game 6 (1/13-1/14) - Every once in a while (maybe twice a season), Hershey manages to play like a quality basketball team. Unfortunately for Great Lakes Christian, it happened in Game 6. Greg Oden scored 24 points as UH coasted to a 91-65 win over GLC. David Teague and Dion Harris added 21 apiece to help the Red Storm (2-4) climb out of the Super 6 basement. Dan Coleman (19 pts) was the leading scorer for the Crusaders, who came into the game alone at the top of the standings, but left in a three-way tie for the lead with RMU and SBU at 4-2 ... Superior Baptist turned up the offense in an 80-59 win over Oskee Wow-wow. Carl Landry (22 pts) and Drew Neitzel (19) paced a balanced Crusaders' attack. OWW's Alando Tucker and Mike Conley combined for 31 points in the loss ... Robert Montgomery U didn't score much, but still had enough to get past Nelson Christian, 49-44. Adam Haluska finished with 22 points for the Knights, who played without the injured Kevin Coble. UNC had its own injury to deal with, as Spencer Tollackson was sidelined with a broken hand. The loss snapped the Doves three-game winning streak and dropped them back to .500 at 3-3.

Game 5 - Alone in the Spotlight
GLC's D.J. White dances to a 4-1 record
Great Lakes Christian took over sole possession of first place with a 62-51 win over Robert Montgomery U in Game 5 (1/6-1/10). DJ White, Dan Coleman and Tim Doyle did most of the damage for the Crusaders, who climb to 4-1 on the season.
