Game 8 - Great Lakes Rising

Ron Lewis and Matt Kiefer combined for 37 points to lead Great Lakes Christian past Hershey, 76-32 in Game 8 (1/24-1/28). Geary Claxton added 17 to help lift the Crusaders into a second-place tie with UNC at 5-3 ... Make it eight straight for OWW! Vedran Vukusic had 29 points as the undefeated Warriors rolled over Nelson Christian, 90-68. Alando Tucker and Greg Brunner added 17 each for Oskee Wow-Wow, who answered the "last chance to stop them" talk by clinching the win before Terence Dials took the court on Saturday night. Dee Brown scored 17 for the Doves, who had a four-game winning streak snapped ... Everybody expected an Indiana player to lead RMU this year. But who expected it to be number 24? Robert Vaden had 26 points as Robert Montgomery U beat Superior Baptist, 80-51. It was Vaden's fourth Super 6 start with 20 points or more this season, one game better than #5, Knight teammate Marco Killingsworth. Mo Ager led SBU with 18 points, and actually got help from Drew Neitzel, who scored a season-high 15.

Game 7 - Surviving Slick's Kiss

Can a game be on the All-Ugly team? Less than 24 hours after Slick Vitalis' Oskee Wow-Wow butt-smooch At The Half, the Warriors took the floor in Game 7 and were lucky to escape with a not-so-pretty 48-43 win over Great Lakes Christian. Greg Brunner's 17 points kept the Warriors perfect season alive, while the rest of team took the night off to read their press clippings. GLC looked like a sure winner heading into the 8pm game, with Lester Abram and Vincent Grier needing only 15 points combined to close it out. But the duo scored only 10, leaving Coach Shipman mumbling about missed opportunities ... Nelson Christian took over sole possession of second place with a convincing 89-58 win over Robert Montgomery U. Paul Davis and Kammron Taylor had 19 apiece as the Doves remained two games off the pace heading into this week's showdown with the Warriors. The trio of Killingsworth, Haluska and Vaden led RMU, but they didn't get much help ... Superior Baptist notched its first win of the season by crushing Hershey, 68-37. Mo Ager snapped out of his recent funk with a 25-point night, while Jamelle Cornley and Rodrick Wilmont added 14 each. The win moves SBU into a tie with UH at 1-6.

Wouldacouldashoulda Of The Season
... GLC actually had the 15 points they needed to beat OWW, but they came from Ron Lewis, the overtime guy ...

Message From The Doghouse ... OWW head coach Scott Slocum announced on Friday that Daniel Horton, who scored four points in Game 6, would ride the pines for the rest of the season. Horton poured in a career-high 32 on Saturday.

Hmmmm ... Slick wonders where Tom Izzo got this idea?

Game 6 - CMS40

CMS40
... Remembering Chris Street, Superior Baptist / Iowa star, on the 13th anniversary of his untimely death. The quote from Bob Knight still says it all. Read it here

Around the Super 6 through Game 6 (1/18) ... A quick update, because Slick Vitalis is trying to get the Mid-Term Report Card written, and needs to use the "typewriter". Look for Slick's update Friday night ... Nelson Christian beat Great Lakes Christian 80-68, leaving both teams tied for second place at 4-2. Kammron Taylor scored a game-high 21 points to help the Doves win their third straight. Geary Claxton's 20 led the Crusaders, who had their four-game winning streak snapped ... Oskee Wow-Wow kept its perfect record intact with a 78-45 victory over Superior Baptist. Alando Tucker had 21 points for the Warriors, while Daniel Horton scored only 4 in his first, and probably last, start of the year. Jamelle Cornley led SBU with 18 points and Rodrick Wilmont added 17, but Mo Ager couldn't buy a bucket and finished with just 2 points ... Marco Killingsworth scored 23 points, flashed some attitude, and earned his second Player of the Week Award as Robert Montgomery U held off Hershey, 51-46. Brian Butch tacked on 11 points for the 3-3 Knights.

Does he, or doesn't he? Only Sherron Collins knows for sure.

Observant Dennis in Atlanta writes: "Is Bill Self’s hair darker than when he coached the Fighting Illini?" Well, let's see. The picture on the left is Self Light. The picture on the right is Self Not-So-Light. The picture on the right also shows the coach demonstrating how he'll look after his next Self improvement - a boob job.

Game 5 - Robbed By A Masked Man

Around the Super 6 - The best game of the season to date came down to the final minute, but in the end Oskee Wow-wow stole another victory. James Augustine scored 23 points and Alando Tucker added 22 as the Warriors held off Robert Montgomery U, 92-91 in Game 5. The win kept the Warriors alone atop the Super 6 Standings at 5-0. Adam Haluska had a career-best 29 points & Marco Killingsworth added 27 for the Knights, who had a chance to win in the final minute, but freshman Korey Spates came up one basket short, leaving RMU at 2-3 on the season ... This just in: The Crusaders beat the Crusaders! Vincent Grier scored 17 points as Great Lakes Christian continued their Cinderella season with a 66-51 win over Superior Baptist. Geary Claxton and Je'Kel Foster added 15 apiece as the (GLC) Crusaders stayed one game off the pace at 4-1. Mo Ager had 28 to lead the (SBU) Crusaders, but he didn't get much help from the rest of the lineup. SBU missed a 20-point game from Jamelle Cornley on Saturday, but it wouldn't have been enough to change the outcome ... Dee Brown had the hot hand again as Nelson Christian downed Hershey, 77-59. Brown scored 26 points to break open a close game and Paul Davis chipped in with 23 to give the Doves their second straight "W". Jeff Horner and Courtney Sims paced the Storm, who haven't won since the season opener.

Game 4 - No Dee-fense

Around the Super 6 - Dee Brown was unstoppable, pouring in a career-high 34 points as Nelson Christian handled Superior Baptist, 82-43 in Game 4 (1/3-1/8). Brown's explosion came at the expense of Michigan State, which has been criticized for their lack of Dee-fense so far this season. Shannon "The Other" Brown added 17 as the Doves snapped a two-game skid and edged a little closer to OWW in the overall points race. SBU was led by 20 points from Jamelle Cornley, who has emerged as the early leader for Freshmen of the Year (it's not even close at this point) ... Oskee Wow-wow stayed unbeaten by embarrassing Hershey, 75-28. Vedran Vukusic's 28 points and Alando Tucker's 27 carried the Warriors to the victory. Actually, Vukusic alone would have been enough to tie the Red Storm. There might be rumors about point shaving if the UH offense doesn't get it together soon ... Geary Claxton and Vincent Grier combined for more than half of Great Lakes Christian's points, as the Crusaders topped Robert Montgomery U, 62-47. Claxton finished with 17 points and Grier had 15 as GLC took sole possession of second place at 3-1. Marco Killingsworth and Adam Haluska had 15 points apiece for the Knights, who were hurt by single digits from Brian Butch and no digits from Jamar Smith.

*** Not A Friend Of The Program ... UNC's Dee Brown goes for 34 against Michigan State on Thursday. UNC's Kammron Taylor lights up the Spartans for 27 on Sunday. Hmmmm. Is UNC coach (and life-long MSU fan) Nelson sharing insider info with his Doves?

Game 3 - Deja Wow-wow New Year

It's a brand new year, a brand new season, but the same old brand of Oskee Wow-wow dominance. Alando Tucker topped all scorers with 25 points and Terence Dials added 24 to help the defending champs run their record to 3-0 with a 96-70 win over Nelson Christian in Game 3 (12/30-1/1). OWW heads to Hershey this week to kick the Red Storm while they're down. UNC fell to 1-2 despite a disciplined performance by Moe Hargrow (23 points), and Shannon Brown had 21 points to hold onto the individual scoring lead ... Robert Vaden scored 22 for the second straight game as Robert Montgomery U posted its second straight win, 66-49 over Superior Baptist. Vaden has quietly put up great numbers and actually is ahead of RMU teammate Marco Killingsworth on the Super 6 Scoring List. Adam Haluska added 17 for the Knights. SBU highlights included Mo Ager's 25 points and 14 from consistent frosh Jamelle Cornley ... Great Lakes Christian rode a balanced attack to beat Hershey, 78-62. Lester Abram had 19 points to lead all five Crusader starters in double figures. Courtney Sims paced UH with 22 points, and Jeff Horner scored 17 in his season debut.
