Super 6 Tournament - Final Four

The Final Four matchups are set in the Super 6 Tournament.

Top-seeded Robert Montgomery will face #4 Great Lakes Christian in the semi-finals, following GLC's 63-49 opening round win over #5 Oskee Wow-wow.

#2 seed Superior Baptist will battle #3 Nelson Christian in the other semi, after UNC got past #6 Hershey in round 1, 42-36.

Is This The Year? ... RMU and SBU, this year's top two seeds, are the only teams without a Tournament Championship. The quest to end the 0-for-10 drought starts Tuesday night.

Is This The Year, Again? ... UNC and GLC have won the tourney title before, but it's been a while. UNC hoisted banners in 1998 and 2000. GLC won it all in 1999.

Could Be Pointless ... For no apparent reason, UH and OWW will play the 5th Place consolation game this week. Rumor is Coach Gibbs and Coach Slocum will intentionally start their worst possible lineups. -- (insert "what's new?" joke here)

Game 10 - RMU Stands Alone

Robert Montgomery U claimed the Super 6 regular season championship outright with a 63-47 win over GLC in Game 10 - (2/10-2/15). Kevin Coble had 23 points in the win, which combined with SBU's loss to OWW, gave the Knights sole possession of the hardware. It's RMU's second straight regular season title, third in the last 6 seasons (not counting the '03/'04 redshirt season), and fourth championship overall. The Knights also won the '08/'09 team scoring title with 691 points, led by Super 6 Scoring Champ Manny Harris. It was an impressive run for Coach Mockler's crew, winners of 19 of their last 20 regular season games dating back to last season. RMU's next challenge is to win the Super 6 Tournament, which they've never done ... UNC's win over Hershey helped the Doves earn the #3 seed in the Super 6 Tournament. Game 9 - The Thrill Of Victory ...

Hail to the repeat champs! Robert Montgomery U claimed at least of a share of the Super 6 regular season championship with a 68-59 win over Superior Baptist in Game 9 (2/3-2/8).

The showdown between the league's top scorers turned out to be no contest, as Manny Harris filled it up for 28 points, while SBU's Talor Battle finished with only 9.

It's the second straight championship for the Knights, who claim the title outright with a victory in the regular season finale against Great Lakes Christian. A GLC win, combined with a SBU win over OWW would give SBU a share of the championship.

Super Ball

Forget the Steelers and Cardinals. The Big Game will be played this week, when Robert Montgomery U and Superior Baptist U battle with the Super 6 regular season title on the line.

Statistically, the two teams couldn't be closer heading into the Game 9 showdown. They each sport 7-1 records, they're tied for the team scoring title at 560 total points each, and feature the league's two top scorers - SBU's Talor Battle and RMU's Manny Harris.

RMU handed SBU its only loss of the season in Game 4, and there's plenty at stake in the rematch. RMU, last year's co-champs with GLC, is trying to become just the third team in Super 6 history to repeat as league champion. SBU is gunning for its second title in three years following a championship run in 2007. The winner will clinch at least a share of the '08/'09 championship with one game to play. In the regular season finale, SBU will take on OWW while RMU will play GLC, the only team to beat the Knights so far this season.

Game 9 in-game boxes - (2/3 - 2/8)
RMU (7-1) @ SBU (7-1)
GLC (4-4) @ UH (1-7)
OWW (3-5) @ UNC (2-6)

Game 8 results: (1/27 - 2/1)
SBU 76, GLC 54 - The loss ended GLC's title hopes.
RMU 78, UNC 47 - Dumes and Sims have done everything they can ...
OWW 50, UH 45 - OWW still has a shot at third place and a .500 record.

Experience Matters ... RMU and SBU have relied on veteran leadership to get this far. Only one of SBU's six '08/'09 signees, #1 overall pick Talor Battle, saw playing time this season, while RMU first-rounder Tom Pritchard is the only one of five Knights' signees to get PT this year.

Wolverines Are Nasty Animals ... RMU's Manny Harris will not be suspended after breaking Chris Kramer's nose on Saturday.
